What is the IONIC RedSpider Catalog 3.0 ?
The RedSpider Catalog is an e-business registry that helps you to manage a community of OGC services. The RedSpider Catalog enables you to easily register and quickly find geo-spatial OGC/ISO Web Services for use in an enterprise application. What is the interface specification of the RedSpider Catalog?
The RedSpider Catalog is based on the new Web Service profile of the upcoming, stateless, OGC Catalog 2.0 specifications and not on the Catalog 1.0 specifications. ebXML, the new international standard to exchange secure business information between organizations, also forms the foundation of the RedSpider Catalog and enables you to enter the emerging world of e-business.How does the RedSpider Catalog help me to create a Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI)?
Spatial Data Infrastructures are based on federations of OGC and ISO Web Services and help organizations use distributed geographic information. The RedSpider Catalog is the mechanism to organize and to discover these Web Services via their capabilities and metadata.Do you currently support FGDC metadata?
Yes, the RedSpider Catalog supports the FGDC version 3.0 metadata, which embodies the ISO 19115 structure. Why should I use ebXML?
ebXML is an open standard that has the support of the world's leading technology companies for exchange of business messages and data communications in common terms. The OGC has extended the ebXML to address geo-spatial web services. Other specifications, such as UDDI, are not extensible enough to support the rich semantic information of these geo-spatial Web Services. The RedSpider Catalog truly allows you to access the growing power of standard and coherent e-business solutions. Is it easy to register OGC/ISO services in the RedSpider Catalog?
Yes, the RedSpider Catalog includes a simple interface to directly register various web services, such as WMSs, WFSs, by simply providing the service URL. Once you inform the Catalog that you want to register a resource, it analyzes your service capabilities and metadata to perform an activity called harvesting. Harvesting is the ability that actually enables the Catalog to automatically discover the services interfaces by means of their service metadata. Is the RedSpider Catalog 3.0 also able to register static resources?
Yes, the RedSpider Catalog registers dynamic resources, such as OGC-compliant WMSs, and WFSs, and can also be extended to register static resources such as symbols, WebMap Contexts or Grid Coverages. Contact our sales department for more information on how to extend the RedSpider Catalog for your business needs. How does the RedSpider Catalog keep my information up-to-date?
Once the RedSpider Catalog harvests a service, it will continue to return to the service's metadata on a regular basis to check whether the content has been changed. If so, the Catalog will update the information immediately. This function is called re-harvesting and represents a major improvement in the way that information is stored in today's technology. Is the RedSpider Catalog extensible to other type of specific or domain metadata?
Yes, the RedSpider Catalog is a framework that can be extended to support many other metadata types. IONIC is currently developing new plug-ins for different type of metadata. Contact our services or sales department for an analysis of your data types.
